Building In Public: Kickoff
Today I kick off building my first product in public.
The product: a direct-to-consumer retail product business, selling customizable "on this day"-style artwork printed to various mediums.
The primary goal: to create a mostly-passive source of income, with a possible exit strategy.
The secondary goal: to create the product in public, contributing to the general indie hacker / public maker community; to grow my network and audience.
What's in it for you: an inside look at the development of a product; the research, decisions, actions, results, and lessons will be shared candidly and transparently. I want my trials and errors to better prepare your products for success.
What's next: research and planning! There are various components I know will be involved, and first we need an idea of how they might come together.
- Custom application for generating artwork
- API integrations for printing and order fulfillment
- The purchase experience for customers (e.g. Shopify)
- Expansion to other marketplaces for more sales channels (e.g. Etsy, Amazon, eBay)
I want to take advantage of as much out-of-the-box functionality as I can. Now I need to see what options are available to me!
